Woman Facing Felony After Fatal South Carolina Car Accident
A woman in Anderson County, South Carolina who was involved in a fatal car accident Friday has been charged with a a felony.
According to Lance Corporal Scot Edgeworth of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Julie E. George, of Greer, is charged with one count of felony driving under the influence involving a death.
Police say that shortly after 1:00 a.m. Friday, George’s two-door 2006 Mitsubishi collided head-on with a 1998 Ford minivan driven by 36 year-old Troy Eugene Smith, on U.S. 178 about eight miles west of Anderson. Greg Shore, the Anderson County Coroner, said Smith was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Smith’s fiancee, Danielle Booth, was also in the minivan at the time of the crash. She was transported to AnMed Health following the accident, where she was treated and released.
At the scene of the crash, the 20 year-old George told investigators that she had been texting on her cell phone moments before the collision. She was later charged with felony drunken driving when preliminary tests revealed that she had been driving under the influence.
