Tragedy on set of Gregg Allman biopic sparks wrongful death suit

The Jones family of Columbia, South Carolina filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Savannah against Gregory Allman, the founding member of the Allman Brothers Band, and executives of the film Midnight Rider, a biopic of Allman’s life.

According to court documents, the Jones family is seeking an unspecified amount of damages in response to the death of Sarah Jones, a 27-year-old camera assistant who died on Feb. 20 during the filming of the movie. The camera crew was hit by a freight train on a railroad bridge in southeast Georgia.

The lawsuit also targets director Randall Miller and his company, Unclaimed Freight Productions, and a number of executive producers. Allman, on the other hand, sued Miller in order to prevent production on the movie from restarting, and the two parties quickly settled their case.
