Halloween is a fun time for kids.

They look forward to wearing their costumes and getting all those candies. As a parent, you need to make sure that your child will enjoy the Halloween and stay safe. Here are some useful tips that you can use to ensure that your child’s enjoyable Halloween experience will also be a safe one:

1. Accompany Her

If your child is under ten years old then you need to accompany her when she goes trick-or-treating. You should not entrust her to the care of other children.

Trick-or-treating with your child can be an opportunity for you to bond with her. Maybe you can wear a costume that matches her’s. It can be your chance to spend some quality time with your child.

2. No Masks

When picking a costume for your child, you need to choose one that does not require a mask. Masks can make it difficult for your child to see her surroundings. That could be a problem when she’s crossings streets or even when just walking. Also, remember that it will be dark when she is outside, so that would make it doubly hard for her to see if she’s wearing a mask.

Instead of using a mask, you can try using make-up instead. Just make sure that the make-up that you will be using is non-toxic and hypoallergenic.

3. Visible Costumes

When you’re picking the costume for your child, choose something that is made from light-colored materials. You can also place pieces of reflective materials on the back and front parts of your child’s costume. That will make your child more visible to motorists in the dark.

You need to make sure that your child’ costume will be visible in the dark even if you will be accompanying her.

4. A Good Fit

Another important thing that you should remember regarding the costume is that it should fit your child. An ill-fitting costume can cause trips and be dangerous for your child when walking.

You should also avoid capes and high heels as part of the costume.

5. Dressing for the Weather

Make sure that your child will be dressed for the weather. It might be necessary to add layers in order to protect against the cold. So, when you’re picking a costume for your child, remember that you might have to make her wear layers of clothing underneath it.

6. Name and Address

As a precaution, make sure that you put your child’s name, your address, and your phone number somewhere on the costume. You need to do that even if you will be accompanying your child as a precaution.

7. Go with a Group

If your child is older than ten years old and you will not be accompanying her when trick-or-treating, make sure that she will be going out with a group with three or more children.

Give your child a flashlight and make sure she’s carrying a mobile phone. Discuss with them the route that they should follow and instruct them to call you if they decide to follow a different route.
