Steinberg Law Firm supports Goose Creek High School Football Team
This season, Steinberg Law Firm will support the Goose Creek High School Football Team. Attorney Ben Akery will be on the field during half-time at the next home game on September 15th. Ben is a personal injury attorney at our Goose Creek office. Our attorneys will appear at each home game until the end of the season (09/15, 09/29, 10/06, 10/20). Additionally, we are giving recognition to upcoming stars and athletes with an “Athlete of the Week” program.
Association between football and concussions
According to studies, high school students are two times more likely to suffer a concussion as college students while playing football. One study, which was sponsored by the NFL and directed by the Institute of Medicine, found that in most instances, symptoms of concussion disappeared within a couple of weeks, while in others, the symptoms lasted indefinitely.
New standards concerning concussions in high school
One of our attorneys, Malcolm Crosland, was instrumental in modifying the legislature in order to carry out Impact Testing in high schools. Malcolm is a personal injury attorney at our Charleston office. The South Carolina Athletic Trainer’s Association is among the sports medicine community organizations that compiled facts and statistics on which guidelines regarding concussions in student athletes are based. For example, each year, prior to participating in athletics, each school district is required to hand out literature on concussions to all coaches, student athletes and their parents.
