South Carolina Publishes 2016 Workers' Comp Rates

The South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce has released its annual statistics concerning the average weekly wage for workers' compensation for 2016. From July 1, 2014, through June 30, 2015, the average compensation wage per week was $784.03. From January 1, 2016, any accident cases paying out workers' compensation will have a maximum payout of the same amount. The compensation rate for 2015 was set at $766.05.

Compensation rates have been set since 1976 by Title 42 of the South Carolina Code of Laws as equaling 66 2/3% of a person's average weekly wage; this compensation rate is not to exceed the average weekly wage for South Carolina in the previous fiscal year. Maximum compensation rates for the last five years are as follows:

  • January 1, 2016: $784.03
  • January 1, 2015: $766.05
  • January 1, 2014: $752.16
  • January 1, 2013: $743.72
  • January 1, 2012: $725.47

Mileage rates to and from medical appointments have also been released. The 2016 rate will be 54 cents per mile ($.0.54). This is down from 2015's rate of 57.5 cents ($0.575) per mile.
