‘Operation Border to Border’ undertaken on U.S. Route 15 in six states
“Operation Border to Border,” a road traffic safety enforcement initiative spanning approximately 791 miles of U.S. Route 15 from Waterboro, South Carolina to Corning, New York, was held last weekend, June 7 to 9, and participated in by six state police and highway patrol agencies.
The troopers conducted saturation patrols, sobriety check points, and other initiatives geared towards decreasing the number of car accidents that occur along this interstate highway. According to police authorities, speed, fatigue, alcohol, and illegal drugs have been the most common causes of car accidents along Route 15 for the past few years.
Last year, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia underwent the first operation of such proportions, wherein the troopers managed to make 24 felony and misdemeanor arrests, including two drug arrests, 16 reckless driving arrests, and seven drunken driving arrests; gave out 500 speeding tickets; and cited 56 seat belt violations and 19 child restraint violations.
