Myrtle Beach Businesses, Residents Prepare to Welcome 500,000 Motorcyclists for The 85th Annual Myrtle Beach Bike Week

Next month, “The Best Biker Event for 2024 on the East Coast,” South Carolina’s 85th Annual Myrtle Beach Bike Week kicks off on May 10, 2024.

The event, which began in 1939, is expected to draw over 300,000 motorcycle enthusiasts from across the United States. Bikers will convene in Myrtle Beach to connect with friends, swap stories and knowledge about motorcycling, and raise money for good causes.

Bike Week’s premiere event is Crude’s Famous 13th Anniversary Veteran Ride, a free escorted ride that makes a 150-mile round trip for participants. Riders will meet at the Golden Egg in Surfside Beach starting at 8:00 a.m. on May 15, 2024. They then ride for 75 miles, stop for a meal, and head back, ending at their starting point.

The Veteran Ride is free, but participants can opt to join in for a raffle, a leather auction, and other events. All funds raised are to support Homes For Our Troops, an organization dedicated to building accessible homes for severely injured veterans.

Motorcyclists are also expected to participate in other ride events between May 10th and May 19th, the scheduled dates for Myrtle Beach Bike Week. Many local businesses, including restaurants and other attractions, also plan for visits from the motorcyclists attending the rally.

Last year’s rally proved to be a safe one for motorcyclists. Horry County law enforcement reported that “no serious incidents” occurred during the rally in 2023. Local law enforcement again plans to inform the public and take steps to protect motorcyclists from serious injuries during the event.

While 2023’s track record for safety was a good one, Myrtle Beach Bike Week poses safety risks. Motorists in and around Myrtle Beach must take due care to share the road safely with visiting motorcyclists. When drivers don’t take the necessary care on the roads, they can cause serious accidents that result in severe injuries for motorcyclists and their passengers.

Other risks come with a visit to Myrtle Beach Bike Week. These include collisions with drunk or distracted drivers who aren’t looking out for motorcyclists or pedestrians. With so many people visiting Myrtle Beach, the risk of fights may rise as well as other accidents. Even the most careful motorcyclists may find themselves injured through the intentional or negligent acts of another person.
