Many Hospitals Negligent in Preventing MRSA

MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) is a potentially deadly infection that people are especially vulnerable to while receiving treatment in hospitals. Despite the severity of this illness and the large amount of media attention it has received, a study of hospitals in Washington reveal that most state hospitals barely make a minimum effort to track or prevent it.

Michal Berens and Ken Armstrong have analyzed millions of health workers to track the spread of MRSA in public hospitals in their state. Their results have been disturbing: many of these hospitals do not keep track of MRSA in their patients or even note it on death records. Worse, they do not take basic prevention steps such as testing patient for the bacteria. Lawsuits filed across the country suggest that this problem is not merely limited to Washington.

If you or a loved one has suffered from a MRSA infection because of negligent healthcare providers, you may have grounds for a lawsuit. To learn more, contact the Charleston hospital negligence lawyers at the Steinberg Law Firm by calling 843-720-2800.
