Lexington Woman Killed in South Carolina Car Crash
A woman was killed in a South Carolina car accident Saturday.
According to officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, 57 year-old Marie Terens was driving a 1999 Mercury Cougar on Laurel Street in Lexington shortly after 1:30 p.m. Saturday when the accident happened. Authorities report that Terens was traveling at an excessive speed, well above the posted limit, when she lost control of her vehicle, ran off the right side of the roadway and struck several trees.
Terens was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, police say. She was ejected from the vehicle upon impact. Terens was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Police continue to investigate the crash and a toxicology report is pending.
