Grandmother Hits, Kills 7-Year-Old

A 7 year-old girl was killed Sunday evening when she apparently ran in front of her grandmother’s car.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, 52 year-old Mary Butler, was driving east on Verner Creek Court shortly after 7 p.m. on Sunday when her granddaughter, Naomi Haile-Hiywot, ran into the path of the vehicle and was hit. Officials say Naomi was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital where she died of head injuries.

South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers said that speed was not believed to be a factor in the crash, but the accident remains unde rinvestigation.
