GM recalls 60,000 Saturns due to troublesome gear shifts
Automaker General Motors Co. issued recall for 60,000 Saturn Aura midsize cars due to reports that their automatic transmission shift levers are prone to showing the wrong gear, an error the car company has been aware of for at least a year, NY Daily News reported on May 6.
Previously the cars were covered by a 10-year, 120,000-mile warranty which would activate if the problem occurred. It caused an estimated 28 accidents in the past seven years. Now, the issue will be repaired for free, although when this solution will become available is as of yet unknown. GM’s steps are being reviewed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
