Elementary school crossing guard hit by car

A 35 year-old Summerville woman sustained serious brain injuries earlier this week after she was hit by a teenage driver in front of Sangaree Elementary. Her family says her injury caused her brain to swell, leading to short-term memory loss.

In addition to being a crossing guard, the woman also worked at the school with four year-olds. While her condition has continued to improve, family and friends say the damage has affected her mood and memory.

Talks of adding a stop light have begun, but nothing has been decided. According to the Sangaree Elementary principal, the school and the Department of Transportation may also decide to add a road going to the school.
