Charleston restaurant settles wrongful death suit, will pay $1.1 million
On December 17, a 32-year-old man lost his life after he was involved in a car accident on a bridge in Charleston, South Carolina. The man was driving during the early hours of the morning when his vehicle was struck from behind by a drunk driver.
The impact of the car accident caused the vehicle that was struck to burst into flames. The driver of that vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, and the drunk driver was arrested and charged with a felony DUI. The family of the deceased man filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the restaurant where the drunk driver was employed at the time of the incident.
According to documents, the owner of the restaurant allowed the man to continue drinking alcohol at the restaurant past normal bar hours. Police reports indicate that the man’s blood-alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit at the time of the fatal accident. The owner of the restaurant has agreed to pay $1.1 million in order to settle the wrongful death suit.
