Belton Man injured in South Carolina Car Accident
A man from Belton was airlifted to a hospital Tuesday after a South Carolina car accident.
According to officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, 18 year-old Hunter Callahan was traveling south on Henry Thomas Road in Belton shortly before 8:30 a.m. Tuesday when the accident occurred. Authorities say Callahan ran off the road, overcorrected, careened off the opposite shoulder and struck a tree near S.C. 252.
According to Parol Lance Corporal Scot Edgeworth with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Callahan was trapped inside his 1990 Chevy truck for more than an hour as rescue teams from the Belton Rescue Squad, Rock Springs Fire Department, and Craytonville Fire Department worked to free him. Callahan was airlifted by MedTrans helicopter to Greenville Hospital System at approximately 9:50 a.m.
Edgeworth said Callahan was cited for driving too fast for conditions and was not wearing a seatbelt.
He is expected to make a full recovery.
