On Thursday, January 16, a Charleston, South Carolina jury awarded $20 million in actual damages and $30 million in punitive damages to the family of Frank Bales. Bales was killed in a 2008 auto accident when he was ejected from his motorcycle.

According to court investigations, Able Martinez-Martinez ran a red light at an intersection which caused Bales to hit Martinez’s vehicle and suffer from fatal injuries. The accident occurred at Fain Street and Aviation Avenue in Charleston County on Oct. 15, 2008.
