Troubled Toys of 2013

A recent report by the U.S. Public Interest Research Group (PIRG) titled “Trouble in Toyland” lists some of 2013’s most dangerous toys. For the past 28 years, PIRG has researched toy safety and provides safety guidelines for consumers when buying toys for small children. PIRG looks for “common hazards” in toys, including lead and other toxins, choking hazards, magnets and noises that exceed the legal limit,. The organization then compiles a list of toys currently on the market that pose potential safety hazards.

PIRG’s reports have led to more than 150 recalls and other regulatory actions, and has helped educate the public on the need for stronger public health and consumer safety standards to protect children from unsafe products.
