13 Tips for a Safe and Happy Halloween!
Halloween is just around the corner. Children and adults will be dressing up in costumes, trick-or-treating, attending parties, and probably driving around late at night. While the holiday calls for celebration and fun, it’s also important to remember these safety tips to ensure a safe and happy Halloween for everyone.
Slow down! There will be lots of children out trick-or-treating on Halloween. Keep your speed below 10 MPH in residential neighborhoods.
Always have your children trick-or-treat in groups or with a responsible adult.
Fasten reflectors to your children’s costumes or bags to improve visibility for drivers.
Examine all candy and treats carefully before allowing your child to eat anything.
Hold a flashlight while trick-or-treating to help you see and others see you.
Avoid dark or poorly lit areas and only visit well-lit houses when trick-or-treating.
Look both ways before crossing the road. Use well-lit crosswalks wherever possible.
Look out for trick-or-treaters and other pedestrians when driving around on Halloween night.
Only walk on sidewalks whenever possible, or on the far edge of the road facing traffic to stay safe.
Wear well-fitted costumes and reflective clothing to prevent falls and enhance visibility.
Eat only factory-wrapped treats. Don’t eat homemade treats made by strangers.
Enter homes only if you’re with a trusted adult.
Never drink and drive. Always designate a sober driver before going to a Halloween party.
