Passenger Severely Injured in Her Own Vehicle Settles for $550,000 in Single Car Crash on Johns Island, South Carolina

Attorney and Partner Catie Meehan of the Steinberg Law Firm recently settled a case for a client who was severely injured in a car crash in her own vehicle, but which was being driven by someone else.

The 57-year-old woman was restrained in the passenger seat when the driver, who was speeding and had no insurance, veered off across the road and crashed head on into a tree on Betsy Kerrison Parkway on Johns Island, SC.

The impact was so severe that both the driver and our client were trapped in the wreckage, which caught on fire. The car split into three pieces and St. Johns Fire District personnel extracted our client from the wreckage.

Our client suffered multiple broken bones including her arm, foot and ribs, a punctured lung, facial and eye orbit fractures, a brain bleed, and lacerations. She underwent multiple surgeries. She was in the hospital for a week, followed by six months of therapy and rehab at home and then continued follow-up and monitoring.

With medical expenses totaling over $100,000, Attorney Meehan was able to collect a total of $550,000 from our client’s own auto insurance policies including $250,000 from liability coverage and $300,000 from underinsured motorist coverage.
