Pedestrian Struck, Killed by Sheriffs Deputies Squad Car

A pedestrian was killed after he was struck by a sheriff's deputy's patrol car early Sunday morning.

74 year-old Anton Hornung Sr. of York was walking along the side of state Highway 901 shortly before 1:00 a.m. Sunday when he was struck by a York County Sheriff's deputy's squad car. According to Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Scot Edgeworth, 26 year-old sheriff's deputy Clifton Conant was driving the vehicle that hit Hornung.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation and Conant has been placed on administrative leave until the matter is resolved. Sheriff Bruce Bryant says Conant was not responding to a call when the crash occurred. Conant injured in the crash. He has been with the sheriff's department for almost three years.
