How to Support Local Businesses During the Pandemic

2020 has been an incredibly eventful year so far. Specifically, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has changed lives worldwide. Everything from daily activities such as going to school, to major life events such as marriage and graduations have been affected. Both work and play have been restricted due to quarantines and lockdowns; our economy has suffered an unexpected “left hook” forcing businesses large and small to pivot their business models to survive.

As the worldwide spread of the Coronavirus continues, communities have come together to support their local businesses during these difficult times. Messages like “support local”, and “support small businesses” have increased in popularity as communities around the world have realized that without this support many businesses would close their doors forever. Buying meals from local restaurants, purchasing locally made products, and donating to local food banks are great ways to safely support others during COVID-19.

Many restaurants, pharmacies, and other stores have adopted a curbside pickup service making it possible to get your favorite foods while staying safe. Thrillist has put together a list of local Charleston restaurants that you can order takeout from to support the local service industry.

Another way that you can support your community is by donating to local food drives. Food banks like Feeding America have been preparing for the thousands of people who are lacking essential food during this time. Their COVID-19 relief fund is helping 22 million children across the country who were previously fed by their school programs and could be going hungry. Supporting your local food bank either monetarily, with donations, or offering assistance driving supplies are the best and safest way to assist others in this time of need.

The Lowcountry Food Bank is Charleston’s solution to families in need. They have been assisting others for many years and have the resources to make an impact on local lives. They have received tremendous support from our local community but still need help. You can donate directly to the Lowcountry Food Bank and support our community if you are financially able to do so.
